“Thoughts arrive like butterflies”

Pearl Jam is the single biggest inspiration in my entire life. They’re the reason I play guitar to this day. They’re also the only band I remotely considered getting a tattoo of.

I’m pretty sure listening to ‘Ten‘ accumulated taking up almost 4 years of my life. It stands as one of my favorite albums of all time, and every song has it’s own meaning to me.

Even Flow has beautiful quiet parts, loud crushing power chords, melodic vocals, and a memorable riff. For Orchestra started as a tribute concept – every week arranging a new song people requested, or I wanted to celebrate. I can’t think of a better song that I’ve ever wanted to arrange.

Looking back at my life I always try and understand choices I made, or events I caused. We all do. I feel this is what Even Flow is about – it’s about making choices, and trying to chase them away. But in all these decisions we make, we need to be a fixer in everything we do. Thoughts may arrive like butterflies, but we have to learn not to chase them away.

To kick it off, I arranged this song by Weezer. I’m doing Jonathan Coulton soon, as well as more. So Twitter suggestions are welcome!

Still some tweaking to do for the next week or two. They say the orchestra is dead, I disagree – it’s never been better. I love the orchestra – it’s all I think about, and I love arranging songs for it. Truth is, it’s what I went to school for. Many of you know me as an online music instructor, and while I love teaching people and sharing my knowledge, ‘For Orchestra’ has been on my mind every day.

This started when I arranged the Weezer ‘Pork and Beans’ and other songs, and it exploded in popularity, and so then I started thinking – ‘What if I did other songs that people have been requesting?’

So there you have it. But I want to hear what you think – so feedback, suggestions, thoughts, etc are welcomed. To request a song simply let me know in the Forum or tell me on Twitter!
